Whead Bio
Woodenhead formed in 1975 by Jimmy Robinson, and students at The Loyola College Of Music in New Orleans
The music grew from rock and progrock influences, New Orleans funk and R&B, classical studies, and the fusion explosion with bands like The Mahavishnu Orchestra, the Dixie Dregs, Allen Holdsworth and others.
With a few early personnel changes, the lineup has remained consistent:
Jimmy Robinson, guitar,
Fran Comiskey, keyboards,
Paul Clement, bass
Mark Whitaker, drums.
The band has been the natural choice for support act, opening concerts for Chick Corea’s Elektrik Band, Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Dixie Dregs, The Steve Morse Band, Allen Holdsworth,
Spyro Gyra, Hugh Masekela, Johnny Winter, Bill Bruford & Patrick Moraz,
The John McLaughlin Trio, The Neville brothers, Jeff Beck and others.
The music is a high energy fusion of instrumental Rock & Roll, Jazz, R&B and Celtic influences.
2025 marks Woodenhead’s 50th anniversary. To celebrate, the band is releasing the entire 7 album remastered catalog.
